Equality to many means
To be of the same status or degree
Be it of power or likeness I think
Equality changes with just a blink...
One day it is said to be equal is just
The next day you're told something you must
Do to be proven you're equal to all
Equality is used to just take the fall.
When it comes to power
We all have the right
To think for ourselves
We do not have to fight
When looking at status
If we all were the same
There would never be a reason
To point a finger to blame...
Why is it equality is a word we hear
When folk feel there is something to fear
Equality should not mean being alike
We all are different in many ways
It is these differences that make us unique
Why do you want to strip that away
Embrace in the differences
Learn from each other
The roles of a dad
Do differ from mother
But this is okay, mom may not want to be
That person who has to climb up in the tree
But if climbing a tree is what she decides
There is not reason for her to hide
She can do what she wants
We all have a choice
Equality is not
Something you can just voice
Why is equality a word used to separate
When folk feel they have made a mistake.

As the calendar turned to 2020 this year
None of us thought 3 months later we'd live in fear
Fear of a virus that science still cannot account
For the cause of what this illness is all about.
In panic and desperation people shopping out of fear
Many non-believers even getting on their knees in prayer
Social distancing so this illness cannot be spread
Some wishing that they could find a cure instead.
So many in our world now live in quarantine
Children asking parents what does this all mean
Politicians accused of doing too little and too late
While many who fall ill have nothing to do but sit and wait.
Who would have thought 2020, perfect vision we had said
Would have started out with fear with so many dead
From what came out of nowhere, quick as could be
One day we will look back and it will all be history.
Until then, wash your hands, and say a prayer or two
For this illness that came so quick just like the former flu
Pray for our country and leaders here and abroad
So we can go back to living United, One Nation under God.
Because it is said, does not mean it is so...
A lie is still a lie, no matter how many times it is told...
Right will be right and wrong will be wrong
Regardless of chat or words of a song...
Good will remain in the hearts of most
Although Evil will try to overcome those...
Freedom of choice, worship as you please
Set forth by our fathers over two centuries...
Now comes before us to be questioned as right
No one should quit, for freedom many will fight...
Our forefathers came to this land to be free
Now we fight for their honor and their dignity...
"Civil rights of none shall be abridged"
"Nor shall equal rights of any manner be infringed"
On account of religious worship or belief
James Madison stated in his 1789 speech.
So why is it 226 years have since passed
Words seem forgotten, memories lapsed....
Right will be right, and wrong remains wrong
It does not change as time goes along...
A lie is a lie, no matter how many times it's been told
Because it is written, does not mean it is so...
So the next time you hear someone judge your belief
Stand up for those who fought for our choice to be free.
All of this is history
Brought us to this day
But now so many want to take
And remove monuments away.
A monument is just a piece
Of stone to represent
A place that our country was
A reminder of life spent.
So, truly what does it do
To remove such a stone
Does it change the facts before
Why not leave the past alone?
The past is what it was
And the past is what remains
Some of it good, some not so much
But all of it with pride and pain
Our ancestors fought the fight
To bring us freedom we now see
Why remove the reminders
Of the price paid for you and me
Removing a stone or flag
Will not change the past
But leaving it for our children
Is history that will forever last
A chance for them to question
The way things used to be
A way for them to know
The changes in history.
So, remove the stones, remove the flags
Remove all physical sights from earth
You still will not change the facts
Of all the deaths or or all the births
All you'll do is go forward blinded
Act like all who died, died in shame
Instead of looking back and knowing
Things now are not the same.
So, when you see a monument
Of history when on a ride
Share the truth with the younger ones
And let them hear your pride
Proud to be an American
Where not everything brings a smile
The past though brings about some thought
That should be talked about a while
If history is not to repeat
Then the history must be told
Or else our fathers died for nothing
And our freedom then is sold.
written in 2016... some points to make:
1000 years ago was a time known as the dark ages.but were they truly in the "dark"? .... It was a happier time with a simpler life and no where near as hectic, chaotic and polluted as it is today.
1000 years ago found copper plates over mummies face.
100 years ago the SS Eastland capsized in Chicago
50 years ago we were sending men to space
5 years ago we were celebrating the capture of Bin Laden,,,,,
My dearest one
Since you've been gone
I sit and look at your picture
At nightfall and again at dawn
Wonder where you are
Your journey not by choice
Taken overseas my dear
Oh how I'd love to hear your voice
Our little girl said her first word
Dada she said today
She looks on with me
At your picture as we pray
I Pray for your return
To come home safely soon
We smile as we sing our song
Looking nightly up at the moon
Daddy we know you too
Look up at the same sky
These are the things
That each day help us to get by
So my dear as you read this
Know that we wait by the phone
To hear your voice, say I love you
Until the day you will come home.
(this is written purely as I'd imagine someone to write a letter to a loved one who is away-written for a contest- this is not about myself,
