A mom is like the sunshine
She brightens up your day
Wipes away your tears
Takes your clouds away...
She has a way of shining
When nothing to you looks bright
Makes you feel safe
When she tucks you in at night...
A mom is so much more
She is a nurse and a friend
Someone you can count on
Her love will never end...
She will be there to listen
When others have no time
Never leave you lonely
She'll give you her last dime...
Although may seem old-fashioned
A mother's love is in her smile
Never goes outdated
Always stays in style...
A mom is like a flower
She blossoms as she grows
Gives you roots to hold to
Sharing all she knows...
She has a way of knowing
Just the right things to say
When life seems so bitter
And you're having a bad day....
Mother's come in many
Shapes and sizes, but you see
Regardless of the package
Your mother is made just perfectly!
When you are down, she'll pick you up
when you are lost, she'll help you find your way
When you take a fall, she'll put you back on top
When the world is dark, she'll brighten up your day.
Love with no beginning, with no end,
She'll be your enemy at times, then your best friend,
When you think she's forgotten, a message she'll send
Her love has no beginning, and has no end.
When you've done wrong, she'll show you right
When you feel you failed, she'll show you success
When you feel you've lost, she'll show you how to fight
When you're hurt or sore, she'll relieve your stress.
She has no if's, she is always there
When you need advice, someone to care...
Her love will not leave you in despair,
She has no if's, she'll always be there.
Of all the days in life I recall
the birth of a child most of all
New beginning, laughter and pride
Joy of a life from deep inside
Nurture and care for them months on end
Then with birth a new journey begins
The moment you hold that little bundle
in your heart it was worth any trouble
you may have experienced along the way
nine months to bring you to this day
a day of joy, peace and love
a gift of a child sent from God above
you hold your child and feel such pride
new love found strength from deep inside
this little one will need all your care
to know that you will always be there
to hold, to comfort, to teach, to learn
once done for you, is now your turn
scared to fail, but proud to be
this new little life from inside of me
will now look at me with yearning eyes
knowing I will be there any day he cries
or if he needs to laugh awhile
I'll always look forward to that joyful smile
even in the day when a tear is shed
it will be my joy to be there instead
of telling him to learn on his own
I'll be there until the day he's grown
and no, it does not stop just then
from Mom to forever I'll be his friend.
You once looked up
Smiled
Your eyes shining bright
Glassed over with excitement
I was your hero
Your doctor
Your teacher
Your confidant
You were my world
My gift from God
Inseperable
Bonded by the cord of life
Never to be broken
Or was it?
You once looked down
Angry
Your eyes filled with hurt
Glassed over from your tears
I was your target
Your victim
Your scapegoat
You were still my world
My gift from God
Broken
Bonded by the heartaches of life
Never meant to be broken
Or is it?
You once looked forward
Satisfied
Your eyes filled with wonder
Glassed over with enthusiasm
I was your mentor
Your shoulder
Your friend
You were still my world
My gift from God
Mended
Bonded by the truth of love
Never to be broken
Or has it?
When I was little, I rode at my Nanny's on my trike
Parakeet upon my shoulder, and he did not bite
At least that is what she told me and I believed her back then
She was more than my Nanny, she was my hero and my friend.
Sitting there with her coffee, Chesterfields at her side
I'd laugh and sing along with her while my trike I would ride.
My grampy'd take out his guitar and sing "skip to my lou"
Pipe smelled of cherry, had Canada mints for his "little doo",
See, my mom was just 16 the day I was born into this world
But she kept me and she told me I was her baby girl.
To make money, my mom would fish the piers of the Portland harbor
Then on the weekends she would sweep floors for the local barber.
Things sure were not easy for a young mom and her child
Having my Nanny and my Grampy made my life worthwhile.
Grampy'd play on his harp, folk songs of yesterday
While my Nanny would sit and listen, laugh with me and play,
I cannot say the years to follow were filled with joy anymore
My mom will always be that lady whom I love, she tried for sure
We'd sing and dance in the kitchen when it was just us two
She brought love and laughter to my life with all that she would do.
When I was young, I rode my bike to a friends house one winters day
I was 13, she was 30, the day the angels took my mom away.
Now my days would be back with Nanny, Grampy was no longer there
Some things do not change like a Nanny's love and how she cares.
We would sit and watch the TV, Virginia Slims now by her side
I'd laugh and joke along with her, then my bike I would ride.
My Nanny was the second greatest gift that God gave to me
My mom was gone, I was lost, but I still had a home and family.
When I was older, years flew by and then I had a child of my own
I now had a chance to give back all the love that I'd been shown
A mother's love, and that of a grandparent never fades away
You pass it on to your child who will to their own again one day.
In the year 1961
My life had just begun
Then in 1963
A baby sister came to be
Another in 1968
Life sure was looking great
Then in 1974
Came to find there were 4 more
2 more sisters to make 5
What a great time in my life
And 2 brothers, now what to do
They play with guns and toy trucks too...
Life sure can bring many a surprise
Family comes in all shapes and size.
Ever wonder as you walk down the street
If it is a long lost cousin you may chance to meet
Then the time to find someone and say I Do
to find out they are related too
This has happened more than we know
Families move and families grow
Now in 2016 the numbers start to unwind
Girls we all still number five
But one brother has gone home to be
With the Father in heaven eternally;
No matter how far, no matter how near
Let your family know you are here
You may not always see eye to eye
But listen close and give it a try
The years will come and things will change
Numbers and names constantly rearrange
Live for today, tomorrow unknown
Leave the past where it is, leave it alone
Except for the memories you hold in your heart
With those our loved ones are truly never apart
In the year 1961
My life had just begun
Now 55 years have come and gone
But believe me it don't feel that long.
2 April 2014 · "It's my birthday and I'll cry if I wantah!" Well, yes, today is my birthday, and crying I've done. Some of you already know that my daughter, Charyssa came to Georgia yesterday, and today left back for Maine with her daughter, my Daisy Girl. Daisy girl has been living with us for the past year while her mom was in Maine, and yes, I've gotten very attached, so today I face with mixed emotions. I will miss her, miss her good morning hugs, her good night frolics and yes, I'll even miss going into the washroom and having to say "you did not flush the toilet....again". I'll miss so many things, but with her I send my Love, I send my prayers that when her mom and her get back to Maine, that they rejoice in the love that God gives to us when He gives us a child. That they take time for each other, and do not go through the daily chores of life without dancing in the rain, jumping in the mud puddles and without making certain that each day they take time together. Today is my birthday, it begins a new chapter in my life, and as it does, I hope that all of Daisy girls' dreams come true, that she faces each day with joy and laughter and without fear. I will always love you Daisy girl and you're in my heart always!

A mother may leave us and go home to heaven
Her love lives on in our hearts and our mind
Her words, advice and even her scoldings
Our mother she was a one-of-a-kind
Her smile would brighten any room she walked into
Laughter would fill our home all the time
She loved to wake us at 4 in the morning
For a day of fishing in rain or sunshine
Bowling was always a fun rainy day adventure
Trophies she had many and showed us with style
Patience was something she sure did have plenty
No matter the score she'd end your turn with a smile.
Her life here on earth the years were so few
Memories she left have lasted more than her years
There are times when I feel like she's with us
So many things I wish I could have shared
A mother may leave us but her spirit lives on
In those whose lives she touched for a while
Her memory will live on in our hearts forever
There is no greater love than that of a mother and child.
written with love thinking of my sisters Ann and Carmen; in memory of the greatest mom and those memories I have of her and the three of us girls love ya both!
I look at the reflection
and staring back at me
a young girl, with simple curls
pretty as can be...
but her eyes are saddened
knowing where she has been
I look again and there I see
A mother, wife and friend...
I look at the reflection
staring back at me
Older and fair, with gray hair
eyes that set me free...
her eyes are filled with love and joy
knowing her life has been
Filled with love of family
and many life long friends.
I look at the reflection
seems to have disappeared
loneliness and emptiness
memories of many years...
The women I once knew
as a mother and a friend
Now remains a reflection
Till I see her once again.
A mom is here, she gives us birth
Then one day, she leaves this earth;
Home to a place we believe to be
A life of peace, eternally.
We miss her morning smiles
Miss her evening prayers
We even miss those times
She disciplined because she cares.
A mom is our first friend
One who is there until the end;
At which time the angels sing
Reminding us of God, our King.
We miss her daily thoughts
The way she’d know what to say
We even miss the times
Things did not go our way.
A mom is the one who totally
loves unconditionally
Even after she departs
Her love lives on within our hearts.
We miss her through the many years
Sometimes a smile, sometimes with tears
We keep her memory alive and well
With loving stories to those we tell.
A mom is here, she gives us birth
Then one day departs from earth
Though she’s gone, in our heart she'll stay
Till we meet again in Heaven one day.
My mother was the most amazing woman I've ever known
She'd smile through troubles, stress she'd never shown
Dance all day, singing as we drove down the street
Smile and talk to every one she'd meet
She was my mom, but for such a short life
Taken from us, she died friend, mother and wife;
But her memory lives on and will all my days
I see her smile and her laughter in so many ways.
When I look at one of my sisters or child
I can see it in the way one of them smiled
Or her eyes the way they sparkled and shined
So many folk say they look just like mine.
My mother was here for such a short time on earth
Thirty years she gave more than 100 years worth
Her love is unending, her memory lives on
And I will always remember her favorite song.
Mom, you are missed, but never forgotten Jan 1945 - Feb 1975
Mommy I miss you
Your little girl
paper dolls and barbies
... and hair you would curl
all the things that you taught me
I now get to share
with my baby girl mom
I've now come to bear
mommies and daughters
friends for their life
still chat over coffee
when they are a wife
mommies and daughters
a bond that is true
lives on forever
when one become two
Mommy I miss you
Your little girl
the times you would cheer me
we'd dance and we'd twirl
all the things that you've shown me
as the years have passed by
and now I see you
in my baby girls eyes
mommies become nanny's
and daughters their friends
bonds last forever
love never ends
nanny's move onward
to a home far away
in a place they call heaven
watching their baby girl pray
My mother's hands held me when I was a child
Washed and fed me with loving care
My mother's hands were gentle and kind
Especially when having to detangle my hair.
My mother's hands knew work of a wife
Cooking and cleaning her love was shown
My mother's hands lived a short life
At thirty the angels came and took her home.
My mother's hands to me will always stay
In my mind as those who held me tight
My mother's hands worked hard all day
And came together to pray with me at night.

Today is my oldest son's Gerry's Birthday. I am thinking how proud I am to be a mom to him and his siblings, and how very much I miss him and my family & friends back north. Love ya Gerry, happy Birthday,,, and many blessings to you and everyone on this blessed day! (2011)
Still trying to figure out how my oldest son, Gerry, turns 34 yrs old today when I am still 39 years young! hmm, guess I've broke the laws of physics, gravity and um, maybe I lost count of years? nah... must be another reason. Happy Birthday Gerry; may you have a blessed day on 2-13-2(0)13..... might want to play 213 in the lottery! (2-13 - 2013)
35 years ago (yesterday) I spent 36 hours in labor, scared and excited; and at the end of those 36 hours, one of the most beautiful moments of my life happened... the birth of my first son,
! Over the years, Gerry has made me proud many times over. He is an intelligent young man with a vision for a brighter future, currently working toward his own software company. He's been so full of surprises over the years. At my father's funeral, I had asked Gerry to sing "Old Rugged Cross" (my father's favorite); Gerry told me that he truly did not know that song, but he would sing something, to trust him. He showed up at my father's funeral with his guitar in hand and sang a song he wrote in those 24 hours; and it was beautiful. He used to write "Dr. Seuss" type poetry, one that I remember well was about burrs on his socks... I've watched him in many theatre shows and dance shows... the list goes on and on of the many talents this young man has... and to think, it all started 35 years ago with a young scared mom and a beautiful baby boy. Gerry, I may not tell you often enough, but I'm very proud of the young man you've become and look forward to many more years of wonderful surprises! Hope you had a wonderful birthday (I was not in labor for 36 hours this year, but was in the dark for 55).... so, this is late in getting to you, but the love and wishes are forever lasting. Happy Birthday son! (2014)
37 YEARS Gerry.. where does the time go? Just yesterday we celebrated your first birthday. You were my first, and you sure did set the bar high for those siblings of yours, exceeding all of the "at age" expectations. Over the years, you have continued to amaze me, never know what new adventure you have undertaken, what new talent you have decided to pull out of your hat; life sure does stay interesting around you. I could not be more proud of the young man you have grown to be; and today and everyday I want you to know how very proud I am, and that my love is with you always. May your birthday be filled with many wonderful surprises and the next year bring you many blessings. I know you will find a way to make it exciting. Love you ~ Happy birthday son, may all your wishes come true. (2016)
Wow it has been 38 years
Years of laughter, years of tears
I remember that day like it just passed
Memories made that a lifetime will last.
That day you were four and a birthday king
Stood there so proud while we'd all sing
Then you said thank you to everyone there
Sat down with a smile in the little king's chair;
Birthdays did pass and some were low key
But each has left a new memory
You were hard to surprise, but I did it once
You were the one to surprise me a bunch.
Then there was sports, music, theatre and more
Always something new when you came in the door;
You did not sit still and let life pass you by
Even as a child, there's nothing you would not try.
At times it seems like childhood was not long ago
And i"m proud of the man that I've now come to know
When we get together as time will allow
You still have a way of surprising me somehow
Let's hold onto the moments now till the end
You're not only my son, but a best friend
So on this day, your day, happy birthday wishes to you
To the man you've become; and to that baby boy too. (2017)
Wow it is so hard to believe
All of those things you have achieved
From your first step and then graduation day
You continued to surprise me in so many ways
Now you turn 40 so many years have gone by
You sure know how to do life with a style
One of your own you dance to your own beat
Leaving your footprint to all that you meet
No mother could be more proud to say
I love you and wish you a happy birthday!
Written for Gerry by mom on your super 4-0! (2019)
41 years..WOW! Hard to believe, that first moment when for me, time stood still... my first child, my son,
Gerry Shannon... a precious moment which has been followed by many years of laughter, some tears, so many joys and surprises... Gerry, you never stop amazing me with your wit, your talent, and your way to enjoy life and live it 'your way"... on this day I want you to know how truly proud I am and to wish you a day filled with fun, (which you find ways to do all the time ) love and laughter of friends celebrating with you... and I am looking forward to our next get-together, because I know it will be another chance for me to say "wow, you did it again" ... you make my heart smile, love you! Many blessings today and always (2020)
42 yrs ago, Feb 13, 1979, I was blessed with the birth of my first son, Gerry, and for the next 42 years I have been blessed with many wonderful memories, surprises and adventures. Gerry has never lost that ability to come up with a new idea, to amaze me with a new talent, a new project, a new challenge; and he faces them all as if the answer has already been found, but he is going to find it again.
On this day I want to tell him how proud I am to be his mom and to wish him a very happy birthday and to remind him how precious life is; the only thing to fear is fear itself; so step out and dance; continue to live your life to the beat of that other drummer and continue to be the best you that you can be. God bless you and may all your dreams come true today and throughout this next year. Love you and hope to see you soon, your mom and friend. (2021)
Ribbons and bows
painting your toes
crying over "that" boy
Some of the things
motherhood brings
wonderful bundle of joy
a baby girl
enters this world
steals a mothers heart
from those tiny toes
to the tip of her nose
birth is just the start
laughter abounds
circus and clowns
pony rides at the fair
not very long
her prom dress is on
and curls bounce in her hair
a mothers love
can never be taken
can never be wrong
never mistaken
the bond that you form
the day that you're born
lasts your whole life through
you'll never forget
that very moment
you first saw your baby girl
there will be tears
throughout the years
love will dry them away
laughter and joy
will mostly imploy
memories always will stay
moments will pass
into years oh so fast
do not let them slide by
your sweet baby girl
who is your whole world
one day will be a June bride
the fun does not end
when she turns round that bend
in fact it gets brighter by far
now you both share a tea
mother daughter times three
she's now a mom of her own shining star.
The day my daughter was born was one of the most precious moments of my life, and the day I was there as she gave birth to my first grandchild was by far just as great. There is nothing more precious thanthe love of a child.
Just 18, diploma in hand
Was now his time to become a man
Enlisted and waiting for the bus to roll out
To find out what life was truly about.
Now 22, four long years had passed
Wife and a child and he made 2nd class
Home on the base, life seemed to go pretty well
One day he'd have many great stories to tell.
Now 18 years later he paces the halls
Looks around to see only white walls
His grandson would be born on this day
Life and the years sure have been slipping away.
Now he turns 50 and looks back at his life
Retired Marine, with a child and a wife
A grandson who now was going on ten
So much to show him about way back when
Just turned 70 and looks back on the years
So many with laughter, some filled with tears
Children all grown, grandchildren now too
So little time left and still so much to do
Now he turns 80, family & friends gather round
Listen to him tell of things of which he is proud
Tells them to cherish each day as if it's their last
Quickly each year becomes part of the past
Just 18, eulogy in hand
His great grandfather was a truly great man
He shared his memories and then said a prayer
So much of his life he still wanted to share.
I thought there was nothing more precious in this world
than the birth of your baby boys or little girl
then along came a granddaughter who stole my heart
from the day she was born, but that was just the start
as she blossomed into a beautiful DaisyGirl
two more little blossoms entered my world
LilyStar came in her own way you see
She did not wait to make it to the maternity
On the sofa she was born, with daddy there
And now she has a sister to share
One day while in Sevierville, Tennessee
My son called to tell my I had granddaughter 3
So, DollyRose I call her, hair of pretty red
Now I'm glad that God did not listen when I said
One girl is more than one Mimi can hold and share
but He gave me three before a baby boy would be there...
Finally a grandson, Scooter is his name
What a precious boy, and no, not the same
No more ribbons or bows to buy at the store
It's Monster trucks and Legos and a fire truck for sure
I miss the days Scooter would say "Let's look at pictures of castles"
Or the way the girls dressed up in glitter and dazzles
So, you see, being a mom is great for the rest
But I think being a grandmother makes it the best
If I'd gone through life without being a Mimi, it'd not be complete
I'd not trade one of my children, they mean the world to me...
But I do thank them for bringing even more moments of joy
when I became proud Mimi to 3 little blossoms and a precious boy!
And then came number five:
Same week Scooter was born, Craig's daughter had a son
For Craig this would be grandchild number one
At the same hospital, and almost the same time
Brantley was born making grandchildren five
Another boy, and being born five days apart
They'll grow up as friends right from the start
Brantley does not like veggies and eats with his eyes
But it is fun when something new takes him by surprise
TV, computers and tablets he truly likes
And recently he learned to ride a bike
When he calls me ma'am, I return and call him pickle
And if you scratch his back, he tells you it tickles
And now 10 years later...
Just when you think this generations done
In June we had another grandson
That will make 6, 3 girls and 3 boys
Although most are now past playing with toys
Daisygirl turned sweet Sixteen last year
Boys turned ten a few months from there
New grandson is cute, growing up way too fast
I have decided his name will be Flash
Back to trucks, Legos and dinosaurs and more
all of the love and things you do not find in a store
Being a mom was a gift from God I treasure by far
but having grandchildren is like being a famous rock star.
HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY DAISYGIRL WITH LOTS OF LOVE
i look back at pictures
A little girl I see
Growing up too fast
Cute as can be
A smile that steals my heart
Laughter to calm the day
Even when we're apart
You're in my heart to stay.
I truly do not know
Where the years have gone
But you've surely grown
And it don't feel like very long
Today as you make your wish
Know that i'm making you one too
That although your hugs I miss
My love is always there with you
So happy birthday daisygirl
Celebrate it with a smile
Do a twist and a twirl
And do it all with style.
written by DeeDee Cooper@April1, 2016 for Daisygirl on her 12th birthday... with much love forever and ever.
How quickly years have flown by
Tomorrow she turns thirteen
I remember the day she stole my heart
And every day that's been between
My Daisygirl as many of you know
Is the name for her I chose
She's growing more beautiful each year
Prettier than any rose
It is hard to think that in five short years
An adult she will then become
And to try to convince her more so now
To enjoy every moment while she is young
Talented and bright, a poet also
Her words have touched my heart
I am so proud to be her Mimi
And of her life to be a part
Distance and time make it hard at times
To physically get together
But when we do it is always fun
Regardless of the weather.
She now lives again in snow
Of which she tells me she no longer likes
But is looking forward to the summer
For swimming and riding bikes
Over the years she has been a big part
Of many moments dear to me
My love stays with her every day
And will for all eternity
So on this day of celebration
There is only one thing left to say
I love you Daisygirl and with all my heart
I am wishing you a fun and happy Birthday!

LilyStar is 8 years old today! My, how the time sure does fly... so my throwback Thursday picture is one of her with her baby sister, DollyRose (who is now 4 and if you look at their daddy's page,
, you'll see an awesome cake she made for her big sister. Grandchildren sure do make life worth living... children are GREAT, grandchildren are GREAT... and isn't it wonderful, you can't have one without the other.... I am so blessed to have 3 sons and a daughter who have now given me 3 granddaughters and a grandson.... talk about reversing the tables! lol I would not trade a moment of my life that allowed me to be mom and Mimi, even though it was not always an easy road... the pavement is smooth now and life is GREAT!
From 2006 to 2017
And so many memories in between
My Lilystar celebrates another year
Wish we both could be right here
To sing and wish and open gifts
Sharing memories just like this
So many moments with her there's been
Now another year of memories to begin
On this day as with each there will be
Lots of love sent to her from me, her Mimi
I love you Lilystar and on this special day
May your wishes all come true, Happy Birthday!
Lots of love always from Mimi
shout out to LilyStar on her 14th birthday...
the years just seem to rush on by....
You were a star in your daddy's eyes
The day that you were born
The sun and the moon to your mom
They'll both love you your lifelong
You are a beautiful LilyStar to me
Been a joy to watch you grow
And on this day and forever more
Will love you more than you'll ever know
So as you celebrate this day
Know that there are many celebrating too
To show how much you mean to them
Wishing a happy birthday day to you!
We are all so very proud of you and all that you've accomplished
.... Wishing you a very happy birthday with love & hugs!
A baby boy, born in Dublin one day
Held him and he stole my heart right away
Watched him grow and learn over the past six years
Many moments of laughter, a few of them tears
Castles was something he would like to see
He'd come over to look at them for hours with me
We'd look at all kinds, and the ones he liked most
Were the medieval ones, they all had a moat.
He also like dinosaurs, dragons and more
For hours we would build with blocks on the floor
Baseball and soccer then football he played
We had so much fun when in Georgia he stayed.
Now he's been in Kentucky these past couple years
So seeing him is less often, which often brings tears
But it also brings joy when those times that we spend
Though not as often, and wish they won't end
We find things to do that make memories dear
Filled only with laughter, no time for a tear
He is such a bright child, full of energy to spare
Keeps us on our feet when he is down here
Would not trade a moment of the laughter and joy
That has come into my world from this 6 year old boy
I wish Scooter a happy birthday filled with much love
Filled with many blessings from our God above
May his day be fun-filled, with much time to play
Hoping that sunshine and laughter will brighten his day
So many memories with Scooter that make me smile
He is a one of a kind, with his own special style
Happy Birthday Scooter with all of my love
