chorus: I don't say y'all
not recon' to be fixin' all the time
I drop most my "r"s
... add a few at other times
I may not be a southern belle
but in ...my baby's eyes
I'm his Georgia peach
and his Yankee lullaby
One day I went to Georgia
on a train headed south
introduced to corn bread
that would crunch in my mouth
green beans with ham hocks
not my favorite kind
but I found a southern man
who treats me mighty fine
I'm just a Yankee doodles
in a southern town
red dirt roads and muddy rivers
are very real I found
sweet iced tea and Georgia wine
in the summertime
redneck guy got this blue jean girl
south of the Mason Dixon line
fishing on the riverbank
catfish at suppertime
bluegrass will be heard
in those southern pines
on the porch, under the stars
at the end of the day..
daybreak takes my man
to work, in that Georgia clay
one day the redneck man and blue jean girl
said "I will ... (I do)" ,
in a little church, in the pines, changed their whole world
now in Dixie he has made, this Yankee girl his bride
now I'm happy & proud to be "queen of my double wide"
Note: Hope it brings a smile at least to those who read it ~ (it is based on a true story).
one day playing perfect world
i met me a perfect girl
who brought love and chaos to my life
she did not know how to say ya'll
but still one day in the fall
I asked this perfect girl to be my wife
we married in a little town
pine trees standing all around
close family was there to hear our vows
now we live in a double wide
nestled in between the pines
saving pennies for a stick built house
who'd think you'd ever find that gal you searched for a lifetime
while playing a game on your PC
never did I ever think that gal would want to be mine
but now we're going on year number 3
did I tell you that this girl, although she now is my world
came from a town I'd never heard
she lived her life on the coast, drank hot tea with her toast
now to a southern boy, that's absurd
we married in a little town
little white church that I'd found
she carried daisies down the aisle
now that we've said I do
we set our table for two
drink sweet tea, now that's the southern style.
NOTE: This poem is based on my real life, written from the perspective of my now husband of 8 wonderful years.
We met in a very non-traditional way; however, our life together is full of traditions and creativity.
When looking for love, do not overlook the story.
I cried when you first came home,
You were my son, my first born
I cried when you learned to say mama
When you cut a tooth, when you learned to walk
Tears of joy ran down my face
The love I knew no one could replace
So proud was I to show my friends
When you turned one, I cried again.
I cried the first day you went to school,
With your lunchbox in tote, you looked so cool
I cried when you asked to use the phone
When you played with friends, I felt so alone.
Tears of joy ran down my face
A little boy now did replace
That baby who needed me for all
I cried again when you played T-Ball.
I cried the first time you went on a date
I knew that soon you’d find a mate
I cried the day you said you would wed
Now another woman you would need instead.
Tears of joy rand down my face
As you said “I do” to her pretty face
So proud of you, my baby now a man
When you kissed the bride, I cried again.
REFLECTION
Crashing waves, sandy beach
ocean air, salty breeze
these and so much more
are great memories
Lobster rolls and fried clams
walking barefoot hand in hand
finding treasures and so much more
castle building in the sand
crashing waves, stars in the sky
ocean breeze under the pale moonlight
so many memories to me and more
of which I now only can write.
Woven into one plaid fabricated life.
Colors weaved together to form the outer layer.
Hues of blue dabbled with children’s fantasies.
Majestic mountains reaching upward while
Waving waters roll and crash against the shore.
An avalanche of colors
Avocado grass among the evergreen pines with their
Peaks interrupting the baby blue backdrop.
Mahogany deserts with arms open wide to the
Tumbleweeds; such as we,
Rolling along without opening our eyes -
At a world full of crystal cascading waterfalls,
Moonlit beaches and blazing sunsets.
Inner Peace,
Daydreams to lighten our load when the doctor
Office white is the portrait on our walls.
ever so subtly
tall, thin, graceful branches bend
she brushes her hair
perpetually
linear travel of light speed
the train whistle blows
Had to be cream
not white nor ivory
no lace, no frills
satin skirt and bodice
sheer arms and neckline
back bared in a V
button up train
delicate daisies adorn
elegantly at the waist
unique Renaissance
Blotchy, ashen, dapple-gray
from hues of blue this morning
stormy, tempestuous is it's way
turbulent clouds are storming
discord and echo fill the air
levin bolts express it's birth
clouds extended gateway flood
fulmination upon the earth
pitter-patter plummet down
puddles parachute bubbles
mizzle outpouring over pines
booming blasts nature troubles
emotional charge aroma
a canopy over the earth
as nature casts it's anima
apparition of its birth
Balloons are filled
streamers are strung
decorated cake
time for the fun
games are set up
hats ready to wear
punch in it's bowl
food everywhere
looking around
things all in place
time to get dressed
and put on the face
masks by the door
awaiting the guests
chairs on the floor
band is the best
come back downstairs
look all around
party time here
and there's no one around
invites were mailed
returns back by a few
now all of this here (cont)
she had nothing to do
no one here to dance
nor eat of the cake
at the door she did glance
perhaps they're just late
what would they think
if she sat there so cool
sipping her drink
aside of the pool
though that sounded great
band now started to play
she'd kick up her heels
and party anyway!
crashing of thunder, waves against rocks
fireworks, concerts, jet engine sparks
sounds silence still in the still summer stir
whispers breeze through the night trees to her
cold air softly wisps through her hair
gently reminding her to listen and care
sounds that ring out into the dark summer sky
the bell rings out for all of those who have died
Love
lathers like luminous light
lost literally like legend labyrinth
leaping loudly like ladylike lilies
loud lessons learned later
lame laden language lowers loves loyalty
lounging lengthy lace
luxury lavish looks
Leaves lonely lost
Lust
Mysteriously
azure waters meld heaven
Unbelievable
Georgia’s blossoms sweet
blooming cotton candy pink
glorify Mac
Table for dining
shoes for shining
phone would ring on the wall
desk for writing
days for kiting
children outside playing ball
boards for playing
and for sleighing
snowball fights on the lawn
bed for sleeping
dreams for keeping
outside at the break of dawn
whatever happened to family
time to sit and to share
whatever happened to stories
at bedtime or anywhere
whatever happened to playtime
be it summer, winter or fall
whatever happened to resting
when day was done after all
now it seems no one speaks
no one sleeps when the sun goes down
no one writes, and no one dreams
no one plays with others around
now it seems that yesterday
no one slept all the day
no one texted, no one cared less
no one pushed others away
now you would think that tomorrow
no one would do it again
no one would want this for their future
no one would want to be one in the end

fewer when talking jellybeans
lesser when talking mathematician
fewer is lesser, lesser is few
to fewer folk feeling lesser confused
need fewer folk to lessen the load
lesser is greater when fewer are told.
Pink on the horizon with a touch of blue
Smell of ocean water is calling you.
Whispers of the ocean as the water falls
Morning sheds its light as the seagulls call.
The sky with its splendor seems to say hello
As the morning sun arises casting its own glow
Boats are now arriving as the morning sheds her light
Peaceful is the moment as we pass away the night.
Another peaceful morning as the boats come in
Docks are now filling with the early fishermen,.
Pink sky fades with shimmering of the sun
Another peaceful morning has now begun.
We tossed like two ships in the storm
rocking and swaying, sails unfurled
storms of nature have no forgiveness
and lay calm when it sets to rest
Winds whip wild with weathers warnings
sucking silently souls sovereign
making madness mild manners mare
baring bold brave bounty bathing
ships come to rest as they're washed up to the shore
hitting hard on the rocks now holes in its hull
calm after the storm sheds new lights of the weather
and lay heavy it's burdens when it sets to rest
spring will turn to fall
in just no time at all
the night before the dawn
the rain before the storm
the salt before the sea
your life just a dream
time to start living
in this world you are given
soon summer will show
winters new fallen snow
live your magical life
shadows under moonlight
in just no time at all
spring will nature call.
born in New England
chilly winter nights
frost on the window
stars are shiny bright
waves crash on the shoreline
moonbeams across the lake
life in New England
nothing more can be so great
...
four seasons to play in
winter brings a lot of fun
snowmobiles and snowmen
snowball fight for everyone
building a castle and angels in the snow
stars cast their light for all the world to know
the beauty of winter, all it’s wonders now to show
summer comes with sunshine
picnics in the park,
moonlit nights, counting stars
taking walks after dark
boating on the waters,
cool breeze in your hair
hand in hand walk on the beach
showing all around you care
four seasons to play in
and then a fifth one too
in the midst of springtime
mud season shines right through
brings with it an added joy
to those who like to bog
in the mud with tires high
watch sittin’ atop a log
autumn comes with colors
apple pickin’, harvest moon,
playing in the leaves
snow will come real soon
carving the pumpkins,
baking pies all the day
family gathering round the table
so many blessings have come our way
four seasons to play in
each one has its own joy
from summer fun to winter snow
for every girl and boy
whatever the time of year
you can be sure to know
lifetime in New England
Enjoy it and take it slow.
She stood on the corner
lights flashing... red, green, yellow
behind her blue, purple, pink.
The smoke followed her out like a Jet-stream
gathering as shadows under the streetlamp
ghostly images
she'd left behind
or had she?
The sounds got louder
screeching,
music,
a blinding light.
A horn blows,
squeal of tires;
the light was red....
she was numb
She stood on the corner.
The silhouette of her hands
shown against the white backdrop
Her gown shimmered
As she performed the dance
Graceful as a cat on a tightrope
Her body moved across the stage
Her gray hair held by a pencil
No money for barrettes
She flowed off the stage
met by a young lad holding a balloon
Could not afford flowers he stated
The last dime got spent on a loaf of bread.
Far away a place to go
A place for which my heart to hold
Heart held fast to excitement dear
Excitement of that place not near
Over hill and over dale
over red dirt dusty trail
summers' blaze of scorching heat
winters' do not know of ice and sleet
summer heat and winter sun
A place to rest when work is done.
Napkin in lap
grace has been said
workday is done
family needs to be fed
slave over stove
after all day on her feet
serving the dish
she's prepared them to eat
child looks up
with a grin on his face
eyeing his food
like at some fast food place
eyes open wide
he puts his food to his tongue
speaks not a word
till his dinner is done
then with a smile
asks his mom what was that
she answers Chinese
he states, "ugh! you fed me a cat"
Note: silly but inspired by a true story. Was in a Chinese restaurant recently where a young boy asked his mom if it was true that they were eating cat. I actually enjoy Chinese cuisine and this poem is in no way to say that I believe they serve cat, it was the "shock me" approach, hope you have fun with it.
Eccentric patio garnished with comfy chairs
Welcoming you in
Dream-chasers, macramé, candles, teas
Wallpaper of musicians
Who gather together
Strumming their originals
Coffee sets on the table

A spot of heaven amidst
This brewing city of cranes.
Note: I've been to many coffee shops, however, this one has truly left a mark on my heart, look forward to many return trips. *unfortunately, this great spot in Nashville closed since the writing of this poem.
I will waltz around heaven
When my earthly dance is done
The stars will be my neon lights
Flashing around the setting sun
There ill do the tango
The mamba and the twist
In perfect rhythm I will dance
Not a step will I miss...
I will miss you my darling
Your arms to hold me tight
Your gentle touch in the morning
And again as we kiss good-night
I'll wait for you my darling
Remembering the way our life has been
I'll waltz all over heaven
Till I can dance in your arms again
