Balloons are filled
streamers are strung
decorated cake
time for the fun
games are set up
hats ready to wear
punch in it's bowl
food everywhere.
looking around
things all in place
time to get dressed
and put on the face
masks by the door
awaiting the guests
chairs on the floor
band is the best
come back downstairs
look all around
party time here
and there's no one around
invites were mailed
returns back by a few
now all of this here
she had nothing to do
no one here to dance
nor eat of the cake
at the door she did glance
perhaps they're just late
what would they think
if she sat there so cool
sipping her drink
aside of the pool
though that sounded great
band now started to play
she'd kick up her heels
and party anyway!
The bell rings
Children cheer
summer time
if finally here
You can feel
it in the air
children's laughter
everywhere
the bus rolls up
they climb aboard
little princesses
knights with swords
playtime fun
they can truly be
Excited by all
Their eyes can see
If we would just hold on
continue to play our part
Excitement for life
would live in our adult hearts.
One of the greatest gifts of being a child
Imagination and it's running wild
Castles out of simple boxes or sand
Or fighting wars with plastic green men
Dress up time was always fun to play
Could be someone different every day
Take out the dolls and set table for tea
So many cakes made of play-dough to eat
Another fun time was to go outside and play
Jump rope and hop scotch to start the day
Simon says, Mother May I and Jack n Jill
Rolling in the grass down the biggest hill
Outdoor fun did not stop in the yard
Most days we'd even get into the car
Go to the beach or fishing on the pier
So many things you could do out there
Imagination seems to no longer exist
Most children prefer to stay inside and sit
In front of a screen, be it 7 inches or fifty
They think that you tube is so very nifty
No longer are children learning to play games
They all sit around and all acting the same
Electronic games is all they seem to need
All those fairy-tale stories they no longer read
Oh how nice it would be to look around outside
See a child playing ball or riding a bike
Jumping rope, swinging way up in the sky
While others are racing around to the slide
Take out your child and show them the things
That back in your childhood the memories bring
Go to the park, collect shells on the beach
So many things that to our young we could teach.
When I was a child
building castles of sand
Yesterday's fun was
imagination of hand
No PC screen or
cell phone to text
I'd jump rope a while
Then see what was next.
It may be a hula hoop
to spin on my waist
may be baton twirling
no time should I waste
friends would come over
we'd sit and play games
life back in the 70's
just wasn't the same
I'd ride my bike for miles
and for miles in a day
then on the weekends
friends would overnight stay
we'd sit around telling ghost
stories and cuddle up close
making sure to protect
each other from ghosts
when morning would come
my mothers breakfast we'd eat
then play a game
see if mom we could beat
Barbie and Ken
were always a win
for days it would rain
and we'd be shut in
boxes of clothes, corvette car
and even a beauty shop
play all day long till at last
we would want to drop
Yesterday seems not
so long ago
when I was a child
building castles of snow.
Armies of snowmen
surrounded it then
life as a child
was so great way back when.
What a day
To spend at the fair
Laughter of children
Filling the air;
Blooming Onions,
Candy Apples
Cotton Candy
So much to sample.
Memories made
such a fun day
Wishing these times
Never would go away
How I wish we could
Spend all our days like this
Laughing and playing
Times I truly do miss.
Soon it will be
Fair time again
Time for more laughter
With family and friends.
Memories made
And years after
Remembered again
With a beautiful picture!
